Integration of SpamAssassin into Mailman a Success
Experiences Posted by Axel Beckert on Wednesday July 26, @01:54PM
from the *strike* dept.
About six weeks ago, we integrated SpamAssassin into Mailman which we use as software for our mailing lists. During those six weeks we could gather experience on how good the system works.

We've got mostly very positive feedback, which matches with our statistics: 1660 spams were automatically deleted, only about 180 spams were hold for administrative investigation. This means that nearly 90% of the spam on the mailinglist lists didn't need any manual inspection.

But since the feedback from some list administrators was also, that still nearly all held back messages are spam, we've decided to globally lower the threshold for spam which is automatically deleted from formerly 12 SpamAssassin points to 7.5 from now on. This would have reduced the administrative effort by 70% during the last six weeks and we hope that it will do that in future, too. :-)

If this should cause legitimate e-mails to be dropped, please contact us immediately.
