  New Webserver
Under Construction Posted by Beat Rubischon on Tuesday September 23, @11:22AM
from the more-power-for-fancy-sites dept.
After the migration of the homedirectories and groupdirectories we set up a new webserver. The old machine had a lot of troubles with the hardware and didn't work well in the past weeks.

All websites hosted by the Department of Physics are now SSL-enabled. Webdesigners could now set links to password protected pages to the https version.

For example our stock catalogue: Instead of http://lager.phys.ethz.ch/, use https://lager.phys.ethz.ch/ when entering from external computers where you need to enter your password.

To give all webistes SSL, we have chosen to use a wildcard certificate based on our own root-CA. OpenSource browsers like Mozilla are happy after importing our CA, Internet Explorer on Windows will show a dialog about the different hostname and certificate name. Ignore this message - the communication between your client and our server is still encrypted.
