  Outage file and printer server
Outage Posted by Fabian Wenk on Saturday November 18, @05:17PM
from the at-least-it-was-on-the-weekend dept.
At around 16:10 access with SMB to the file server foostock (winhome, windata, machome, macdata, unixhome and unixdata) was not possible any more. I did a reboot of the server at 16:55, the server was back online at 17:05.
We apologise for the inconvenience we caused by this.

When trying to solve the problem, I realised that also our print server did not work properly and suspected this to be the source of the problem with SMB. Samba, which runs our SMB server, is build with CUPS support, which connects it to the print server. The print server did even not stop after 25 minutes I did initiate the stop. At around 16:55 I decided to reboot the whole server. This gave also an interruption of about 10 minutes for all access to the file server.
