  Happy new year!

Some hours and 2005 is history. A year without big highlights, but a lot of work. We had not only technical challenges, but also some organizational changes.

One big task was the upgrade of Debian Linux from Woody to Sarge. Not only 17 servers, but also more then 150 workstations were upgraded.

The second big thing still is NetNG. About 800 computers must be moved from our several old subnets to one new pool, which will be located behind a firewall. This task is less a technical then an organizational problem and will continue to take some time.

After a long time of increasing spam, the amount of junk goes back since April. This gave us air to breeth on our mailserver and time to improve the filter rules.

Some changes affected our team. One additional person started to prepare a Windows environment and we hope to deploy the first workstations during spring 2006. Some organizational changes like a request tracker system and a fixed helpdesk person channelize the work and keep the heads of the other team mebers free for larger projects.

The availability of our systems was less then last year. The migrations and troubles with disks gave us several outages. We apologize for those inconveniences and do our best to minimize those problems.

We wish everyone a successful 2006!
