  Again fileserver crash
Outage Posted by Fabian Wenk on Thursday December 22, @01:06PM
from the second-disk-in-two-days dept.
At around 12:00 the file server containing the home directories had again all nfsd processes in disk wait status. This forced us to reboot. Another disk was failing with a lot of errors, we replaced it. Currently the rebuilding of the RAID and the file system check is running.
If everything works as expected, the server should be back online at around 14:15.

Update: Server is back online since 13:30

We are currently reinstalling sardona (which was in repair for over a month, after it failed completely at the begining of November). It was planned to use both servers (sardona and schabell) as fileservers for the home directories. The idea is to distribute the homes on two servers and in the same step add more capacity.

But now with the recent problems we had with the RAID controller in schabell, we will again first move all home directories back to sardona. After this step is done, we are able to replace the RAID controller in schabell and reinstall the system, and then hopefully able to distribute the files on both servers.

We expect to do the migration to sardona during the next weekend. We will announce this planned maintenance here on our ISG News.
