  Confused about your passwords?
Tip of the week Posted by Beat Rubischon on Friday September 03, @11:59AM
from the login-logout dept.
We are contacted quite often because of troubles with different logins and passwords. There is a physics account and n.ethz.ch account. Not everyone has both of them and different things needs different logins. Read on to see what they are, how to get and when to use which one!

The physics account, also known as the mail password, is given by us to all people who are working for an insitute (even guests), administration, students who are following a lecture or lessons in one of our computer rooms.

It is needed to access your @phys.ethz.ch email, your files, and the workstations operated by us like those in the computer rooms HPV F7.1 and HPP H7.

To change this password, you need to visit our password site.

The n.ethz.ch account is given by the staff department to every student and employee at ETHZ. You should get this login and password by mail to your home address. Please ask your secretary in case of problems.

You need this account to access wireless LAN and VPN, your @student.ethz.ch email, IDES and several other ETHZ wide services.

To change this password, you need to visit the admin tool.

Other departements have also their own user database and also some of the D-PHYS institutes operates their own databases. Feel free to ask your IT supporter or our team in case of troubles.
