from the stable-but-buggy dept. SuSE discovered a problem in the chown() system call of the Linux kernel. While all kernels of the 2.6 line are affected and should be upgraded, only kernels from the 2.4 line running the kernel-nfs-server could be exploited. The fixes are in 2.6.7 and 2.4.27-rc3.
We will reboot our servers during weekend and the workstations on monday morning.
The 2.6 line seems to get a new development model where no longer a developement version will be forked off. We are discussing about upgrading our workstations to this kernel to avoid waiting weeks or months until the maintainer Marcelo Tosatti releses a bugfixed version of the 2.4 kernel. < | >
