Another local rootexploit in Linux kernel
Linux Posted by Beat Rubischon on Tuesday January 06, @09:30AM
from the patch-and-reboot dept.
Yesterday afternoon, another problem in the Linux kernel was detected. This time, the systemcall mremap() is affected.

Updated one day later!

We have upgraded all servers this morning and will upgrade all managed workstations during this day. Be sure to update your personal workstation or notebook.

Linux 2.4.24 is the fixed version, a separate patch ist also available.

Distributions have already new kernel images:

  • Announcement from Redhat
  • Announcement from Suse

Debian will need some additional time to build kernels for their 11 architectures.

Update 1: All our managed servers and workstations are up to date. Thanks for your cooperation!

Update 2: Debian has also new kernel images - at least for i386. Be sure to install the package manually and to reboot the machine. Kernels are not automatically updated in Debian!

Update 3: Linux 2.2 is not affected.
