  Don't touch the power switch!
Tip of the week Posted by Beat Rubischon on Monday November 24, @01:33PM
from the no-no-no dept.
Every time I work at home, I need to tell my dauther to keep her fingers from the powerswitch of my computer :-)

Even in my office, it's essential that the managed hosts are not turned off without notification of the ISG. Why? Please read on...

All computer powered by Linux as our student workstations, the seminar workstaions or several workstations in the institutes are reachable over the net using SSH. Linux is a multiuser operating system and it's quite usual that more then one is working on the same computer. Also long running jobs doing large calculations are quite usual.

We keep track of the usage and load of our computers:

In case you switch off such a machine, the work of one ore more days goes away and was a waste of time!
