  Servercrash
Outage Posted by Beat Rubischon on Friday August 29, @12:38PM
from the murphy-was-an-optimist dept.
This morning, the fileserver for the homedirectories failed. We are working to solve the problem and will keep you informed on this page.

Update Sat 12:00: All homes are now back read/writeable. Most workstaions should be usable. Please contact us on monday if you have troubles.
Yesterday (Thursday) morning, the first disk failed in the server - no problem, data is protected by RAID-5. This morning (Friday), around 04:00, the second disk started to get bad blocks...

Around 11:00, we ordered replacement disks to recover the data. Half an hour later, the mailserver got access to the homes - you are now able to send and receive mails and read them on http://webmail.phys.ethz.ch/. Access to your data is not yet possible.

See the complete crashlog... The line giving up on 1 buffers was the point where the problem begun.
