  Sharing files with external people
Tip of the week Posted by Beat Rubischon on Thursday December 05, @04:27PM
from the anonymous-up-and-download dept.
You need to transfer a file? Most files don't fit into a mail (typically limited to 10MBytes). We have now two tools to send and receive even bigger files.

Offer a file

Create a directory public_html in your home directory. Put the stuff you like to distribute there. It is reachable on the URL http://www.phys.ethz.ch/~user/

Example: My login is beat, I created the directory public_html in my home. I put the file sample.txt in it. You may see it in /home/beat/public_html/sample.txt on any of our Linux-Workstations or in \\sarapis\beat\public_html on Windows. You may now access this file with the URL http://www.phys.ethz.ch/~beat/sample.txt.

public_html is also the place where you may put your personal web pages.

Receive a file

Someone needs to send you a large file? Give him the URL http://www.phys.ethz.ch/upload/. He should enter his and your E-mail address and upload up to 10 files. You will get an e-mail with a link to the file. After three days, the files are deleted automatically.
